Colonel Smithers is a character in the 1964 movie Goldfinger. He is in charge of the Bank of England. Smithers has Bond investigate Goldfinger to discover his means of shipping gold internationally as he suspects Goldfinger is deliberately smuggling his gold illegally with secretive means after his past attempts to find this out failed. He told Bond to make contact with Goldfinger and gave a German gold bar from World War II era. He is portrayed by Richard Vernon.
